Upcoming pre/postnatal group Pilates classes

We're looking forward to offering two new pre/postnatal group classes in January/February.

The two classes include:

  • Friday 2:30 p.m. will be a four-person semi-private Alpine Method class (reformer, mat, springs/full studio use)

  • Saturday 5:00 p.m. will be an 8-person group matwork class called Pre/Postnatal Reset + Restore

Class descriptions

Some info:

  • Pilates experience would not be necessary.

  • The approach to pre and postnatal exercise is essentially the same, with some minor variations that I am prepared to accommodate in a group setting. We focus a lot on mindfully and intentionally connecting to our bodies, breathing, pelvic floor health, pressure management, developing a healthy and strong core, upper body mobility and strength, feeling good through our hips and backs, balance, and more. You can go at a pace that suits you and add or reduce the level of challenge as you need that day.

  • People in their first to second trimesters are welcome; by your third trimester, it's generally not a wise or sensible idea for a movement instructor to introduce a brand new exercise practice to your body and it would make more sense for you to start your practice after your little one has arrived.

  • If you've recently had a baby, please wait to join a group class until about 2 months has passed, and give yourself extra time if you've had a C-section.

  • I am happy to work in concert with your medical team and your pelvic floor physio; I highly recommend that pre/postnatal moms see a pelvic floor physio before starting a regular Pilates practice and I'm happy to provide recommendations for practitioners if you like.

  • Our studio is baby and child friendly, and my 1:1 clients often bring their little ones with them for their appointments. Please feel welcome to bring your babies, and I'm open to ambulatory young ones joining you in the studio as well, but I do want to be mindful of safety. I do not have a designated changing table, but we have a private washroom and a couch in the private studio office that I'm fine with folks using if they need privacy with their baby.

The classes would be 45 minutes long. I need four people to register for the class in order to run a reformer-inclusive class ($30/45-minute class), and 6-8 to register to run a mat-based class ($22/45-minute class). We typically run our classes by the semester (2-month period), and I would not be teaching with a casual attendance/drop-in model because I am invested in students feeling like they're getting the most out of the classes. The classes would be tailored to your individual needs and would be designed to progress week by week.
