Group Mat Classes

Group class schedule.PNG

About Our In-Studio Group Mat Classes Our studio’s primary focus is personalized training, where we work with our clients to build a specialized and progressive movement program that is specifically tailored to help them achieve their goals and meet their bodies’ individual needs. Even though a group class includes other people and it can’t be 100% only about you (that’s what 1:1s are for), we still prioritize you and your body’s needs beyond what would be possible in larger, more generic classes, and our focus is to truly help you learn and progress. Our class sizes are small (only 4 people), and we primarily offer preregistered/committed 6-8 week sessions of classes, not casual drop ins. Since we're able to really develop meaningful relationships with our clients over a multi-week session and get to know everyone’s unique needs and strengths, we are better able to help you have an optimal movement experience and help you progress toward your goals, whatever they might be. Our classes are held in our boutique studio in the Marwell Industrial Area. Classes are $25 per 60-minute class and $22 per 45-minute class. We only offer preregistered classes (full commitment to and prepayment for all class dates within the session), with some availability for drop ins if we have extra room or if there are cancellations. When you preregister for your class, you are paying in advance for all offerings in that class. If you know you will be away for certain dates, you can let us know and we will offer the spot to anyone who may be on the waitlist. If someone fills in for you, we will refund you for that particular class at the end of the month. If your teacher needs to miss a class that you’ve already pre-paid for, you will have the option to either be credited or to receive a refund.

What to expect in our online group classes

"Why do you only offer preregistration and not casual drop in?" Teaching Pilates is our instructors' primary means of earning a living, so we need to be able to plan ahead and know whether or not a group class offering is viable. Offering drop-in classes is not affordable for our business. Our studio is small, so our class sizes are modest, and we don't have the option of over-booking or over-filling a class the way a larger studio or group fitness center would, and every booking (or last-minute cancellation) makes a big difference. We need to have a minimum of four clients in every class in order for a class offering to be viable, otherwise we are running the class at a loss -- especially because we try to keep our group class rates affordable and competitive, even though they are actually more like semi-private personal training sessions. Additionally, preregistration is better for our clients! When we know for sure who is coming and when you commit to multiple weeks of classes in a row, we can really help you make measurable progress toward your goals, and we can get to know your body's unique needs and strengths.

Tips for booking your class 1. When you are preregistering, you don’t need to book in for each date; our Acuity booking program is set so that once you book one class, you’re automatically signed up for all of them. PLEASE DO NOT CANCEL for any individual dates you will miss your class, because that will cancel all of your collective bookings. Just alert us that you will be away and we'll take it from there. 2. Make sure your time zone (near the top of the booking window) is set to “Mountain Time - Whitehorse” (or whatever your time zone is if you are joining from elsewhere in Canada) so as to avoid confusion in your booking emails. 3. The health form and waiver is quite comprehensive, so to avoid needing to fill it out again in the future, we strongly encourage you to choose the option to “create an account” on your final confirmation page (section 3 of the booking process) so that all your information is saved. 4. In order to book your class through our Acuity booking system, you do need to have a valid credit card number on file. If that doesn’t work for you, let us know and we can see about making alternative arrangements.

Scheduling a drop-in class Drop ins are open to (a) current clients, (b) clients who have done at least one 1:1 assessment so that we know if they're a good fit for the class, and/or (c) folks who have been specifically invited by the teacher. Drop-in booking for group classes (online or in person) through our booking calendar closes 24 hours before your appointment; however, if you'd like to join us for a virtual group class on shorter notice, just get in touch! All times are in Yukon time, so if you're joining us virtually, please make sure to check your time zone when you're booking.

Finding a good fit Not all of these classes will be good fits for beginners or gentle movers. If you're wondering if a class will be a good fit for you, please feel welcome to send us a message! Pilates Roots and Reset + Restore are specifically programmed for folks who are new to Pilates or for gentle movers or for folks or who are looking for a slower-paced workout. Pilates Matwork for Seniors on Friday mornings is a good fit for folks with osteoporosis or other bone or spinal conditions, whereas other group classes would not be a good fit for osteoporosis. None of our group classes are a good fit for a pregnant or recently postpartum body, but Nadea does specialize in pre- and postnatal fitness and would be happy to welcome new moms and moms-to-be for 1:1 sessions.

Booking more than one weekly class While you're welcome to book as many classes as you like, please note that classes with the same name taught by the same teacher will have near-identical programming during the week, so while you can join multiple classes of the same variety if you want to, you would be doing the same class twice.
